Special Guest - Pita Taufatofua

You might recognise Pita Taufatofua through recently breaking the Internet as the world went crazy over the Tongan Flag Bearer at the RIO Olympics 2016. After 20years of blood sweat and tears Pita made history by being the first ever Tongan athlete to qualify in Taekwando for the Olympics.

Being self funded but very determined, Pita sacrificed his whole adult life working in homeless shelters with the underprivileged to show and teach people the power of self belief.

Pita Taufatofua, Australian born and raised, with family ties in Tonga to Ha’apai and Vava'u has had his sights on an Olympic gold. The year 1996, was a pivotal point in Pita’s life, when Paea Wolfgramm, the boxer, made history by winning silver at the Atlanta Olympics, the first ever Olympic medal for Tonga.

On the day Paea went home to Tonga to celebrate his Olympic success, Pita was one of the thousands that lined the streets to welcome their favourite son. He held a sign with a "P" scribbled onto it to spell out Paea’s name. He vowed then that he was going to be representing Tonga in Taekwondo at the Olympics.

We are indeed thrilled to have Pita attend and participate in Pacific Runway Carriageworks.
